Am super excited for this game. The original NieR was an outstanding (if technically flawed) game and with the follow up being made by Platinum it looks like it'll be a right cracker.

A new gameplay trailer has been shown at the Paris show which looks very promising, especially if you were keen on Bayonetta. Skip to 3m17s for the gameplay footage (link)

I'm beyond happy that this is a thing.. Nier was as you said - deeply flawed, but what it got right was just incredible. Now with added Platinum Games, just.....wow!

There was some new footage knocking about last week as part of a Nier music concert / Developer talk:

While it looks very much like a tech demo, the combat and general fluidity seems spot on.

Bunch of the music tracks performed here too, some wonderful renditions of the original Nier tracks and a couple from the new game:

I'm over the moon for this!

I do hope they make it challenging.. In Nier, you became way overpowered in the final chapters.

Cool, I really liked the first one, though never finished it. Will have to keep an eye out for the 2nd.

Well, it's here and I've been enjoying it quite a lot. Some of the combat sections get a bit samey but I'm liking the little odd or touching moments dotted around here and there. And the music, oh my god the glorious music.

I'm a little conflicted on my feelings for it so far, while I like what it does I'm not as won over as a lot of reviews were leading me to believe. Maybe that'll come on later playthroughs, or could it just be that reviewers are just getting to see the magic of the first game now that it's been wrapped up in a more competent engine?

One thing I do really wish the gameplay was smoother. It's very fluid but keep getting lots of severe frame rate issues. Almost tempted to see if the PC version fixes this

While these games are stunning to look at the button bashing really puts me off.
Had bayonetta and lost the will to finish it due to the nature of the combat. :-(

Stunning production just not for me in my old age.

Totally agree about Platinum combat and was my main concern before heading into this. Tried Bayonetta but it was way too frustrating for me and had to give up only a short way in. This feels much easier to me, only really punishing on the harder difficulties. There's lots of tricks and upgrades to make it easier so that helps too. And from what I've played, it's certainly not all about the fluid combat ;)

And it's *cough* VERY modest in its production design compared to Bayonetta, but very rich in terms of scope and inventiveness.

I enjoyed the demo (recorded some gameplay a while back on my youtube if anyone is interested), the roaming looks quite fun even though I know its not exactly 'open-world' per se.

Will have to wait on the list of eternal damnation (aka the wishlist).

Seriously guys, give this game a go, but do remember to play the 4 episodes.

It's really not very much like the original (I'm about 25% through act 3), it's fast and frenetic but has an intriguing story.

Do you warm to it more, in the end Ben?
