Benjo does your garmin have a recovery advisor on it as I find that is helpful as a guide. I follow both rizknows and dc rainmaker on you tube as they do some good reviews and guides on all things sport

Yeah, I saw it flash up saying 62 hours when i finished a poorly planned run up and down mahoosive hills the other day, so I'll give it a few more 'normal' runs before I start trusting it!

Mine does that on occasion so I just use it as guide. The one rule I live by is listen to my body

Found the snow and ice a bit shit today, having to be super careful not to fall on my arse and it doesn't really help promote good running form. Left a short run with sore ankles and a stiff back :-(

Not entirely enthralled by the idea of treadmills and gyms (£), so I'm hoping we have the mildest winter on record!

...

Also, my mum started couch to 5k and she's bossed the first 2 weeks no bother (even through the wind, rain, snow and freezing cold)! Well chuffed for someone who's 64, woefully unfit with her fair share of mobility and health issues, but she's giving it a damn good go and I think that's pretty amazing.
So anyone thinking they can't or don't want to do it, give it a go, you may be surprised.

I ran at the Olympic park today and for an organised race it felt like they had cut corners on safety, it was very slippy underfoot and the bag drop was out in the open and to top it off the tube shut down due to the snow. My feet have only just thawed out

Been thinking about setting myself some goals for next year...

-Sub 25 minute 5k.
Fastest the other day was 28:22, so should be able to bring it down a bit. I'd love to keep pushing and get closer to 20 but I think that's gonna be a much tougher ask

-Actually do some bloody Parkruns!

-Run a 10k event. Be nice to do a big event with other runners. I hate people. And crowds. But something I want to push myself to do. Maybe even a meet up with fellow Frugal runners for this one???

-Find a running group. Free one obviously, but might be good for me to get out there with other local runners and pick up some useful tips.

What about the rest of you, willing to lay down some goals?

My initial target in 2016 was a 25m 5k, closest I got was 29:40 which was still a way off, now I need to be able to get to that distance, so I think initially a 30m 5k to try and get back to where I was.

Im hoping the new trainers will help get me back on track, as I bought the wrong pair last March and lost my way.

A 10k race might be a good idea, get some bling, think we are a bit of a distance away so probably a bit much for meet up!

Some Strava challenges might be worth looking at to, to help with some motivation.

Well worth looking at the Workouts section on Garmin Connect Adam. Can create yourself some simple plans like the C25K ones where you're running a certain distance / time, resting, with repeats etc. I've been doing 5 x 1k runs with rests in between and feels like it's helped me get quicker and is certainly more motivating than just going out for a run without an agenda.

Cheers Benjo, I saw you run a few 5x1's and thought that was a bit neat, thats definitely is a lot better than just getting out and running the same loop. Set myself up a 5x1 and will give it a go next week
