Tricky to resolve shin pains as it could be a number of things, wrong trainers, worn trainers, how far are your strides? If your over reaching that can cause impact issues, could try shorter strides? But might just be your legs getting used to it, taking it easy is recommended!

As Lee said gentle stretching works. I had problems with my knees after long runs and slight pain in calves. I now belong to a running group and have been learning stretching techniques and drills and I now have very few problems. I would also recommend getting a gait analysis done to see if you are in the right footwear

That's week four done. Starting to get harder. Not real aches in my legs so far, touch wood.

Well done mate. Week 5 is a good test, you should be fine if you've been doing ok thus far. It's more getting over the mental hurdle of running for a long time. I did briefly start to get stitches in week 5, so slow down a bit and take some long deep breaths if it happens to you.

I'm in week 6 now and starting to really realise the importance of breathing properly on these longer stints. I do struggle taking enough air in through my nose for some reason. I also worry my left ankle feels a bit weak, been doing a few exercises to try and strengthen it but it doesn't feel right when I get running.

Older ones but barely used to be honest. I'll probably head to my local Decathlon to get some advice on more appropriate footwear soon. Last time I was there I saw they've got a machine to measure your pronunciation :-P

Yea might be worth doing, i know when i get tired my running form drops which then causes ankle and knee issues, but if yours is happening fresh it might be the boots.

My local sports direct has a machine that can check the arches, it might not be as hi tech, but if you're lucky you might be able to get some direction, without the cost of professionally priced trainers. Maybe.

Seriously well done guys.

If the injury worsens/hurts more during a run, rest it. If it gets better as you warm up, don't worry too much unless it starts to impede.
