Recently acquired the Elgato HD60, but using a Mac and still playing with the software which is in Beta, but want to try the ORBs software (i think its called that), as alot of peeps seem to favour this, but hopefully over the next few months i'll be streaming a bit more and playing with the setup etc, but i might need to look at a dedicated PC instead as Mac is just ok for streaming.

Just ordered mine so hopefully I'll have some time to get utterly confused as well.

You mean OBS? It's pretty good, a lot of people started using it when XSplit were still charging a fortune for their software, but to get 60fps and better audio you still need to pay with Xsplit, so OBS is probably the way to go

ORBs

Yes thats the one OBS, I did downloaded and have a quick look, looks very basic, but had a quick look on youtube and does look better than the Elgato beta software, and probably less memory hungry as well, so will try and have a play and get some streaming going with that and see how it goes, im hoping to find a plugin for the twitch chat, as i prefer to use fullscreen, but having to look on twitch channel to see any comments, but will have a read up and see if this works better on my Mac.

What will your monitor setup be and what do you want the plugin to do?
Most streamers will have 2 or more screens, 1 with fullscreen game footage and others with twitch chat and streaming software to check settings and stuff.

With the chat you can always open it up in a browser window of its own (like this) and make the text bigger so you can see it clearly on your second screen. Chrome plugins like Better TTV can help make it easier to read and are useful if you ever want your chat to appear onscreen for your viewers (link to guide)
